Biography

Special Trial Judge Fried holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia, a J.D. from George Washington University Law School, and an LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. Before his appointment, he served as Attorney-Adviser to Chief Special Trial Judge Lewis R. Carluzzo and as Deputy Counsel to the Chief Judge. Prior professional experience included working as an Attorney with the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington.

He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, United States Tax Court Bar, and American Bar Association.

Appointed Special Trial Judge of the United States Tax Court on October 10, 2023, and appointed Chief Special Trial Judge on May 2, 2025.
